Traveling to new places in a new way seems to be the hype of these days. More and more people are becoming backpackers. They go abroad with a minimum budget but maximum adventure. And here, we are trying to add the thrill even more.
We have places that might instill either horror or amusement to you. If you go there, you will undoubtedly rewire your nerve. It can be either exciting or dangerous, yet there lies the fun!
Visiting Chernobyl
Approximately thirty years ago, a tragedy of mischief happened in Chernobyl. Nuclear reactor number four melted down, and the radiation spilled to the surrounding area. United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) investigated the mishap and estimated there were 49 deaths and 6,000 cases of radiation-poisoning victims. The number is believed to be growing because radiation triggers cancer in people. And United Nations couldn’t precisely trace the collateral damages.
Nowadays, the site has been deemed safe to visit. And if you happened to be an avid fan of horror movies, Chernobyl Diary is a title you must not miss. It may inspire your travel if you do decide to put the desolated town on your travel list. Or so to say, the movie may add more thrill and a little bit of adrenaline into your exploration adventure.
Sea of Stars on Vaadhoo Island
This place looks like it comes straight of a fairy tale. Placed in Vaadhoo island in the Maldives, the sea of stars has glowing water that can mesmerize you. The effect is a result of bioluminescence, a chemical reaction between the phytoplankton in the water with oxygen.
Vaadhoo Island can be the ideal place for you to observe the magical site of nature. You can go there for a honeymoon or any kinds of celebration.
If that is not in your case, visiting the place alone is also alright. Vaadhoo island has few people after all. The local population is only around 500-600 people. It is the right place if you want to escape the crowd.
Pennhurst Asylum
Who would have thought visiting an asylum can be a tourist destination? Well, if you are a thrill-seeker, you will find your kind of fun by visiting horror-instilling places. And what is better is that there are services which offer a tour to asylums. And in the United States, the most worth-visiting one is Pennhurst Asylum.
The large hospital for the mentally-ill people was built in 1908. But back then, we did not understand mental illness as we do right now. Epileptic people, kids with down syndrome, and the criminally insane shared the same hospital. What is worse to hear was the abuse they experience from the doctors and staffs. The news began to leak to the public, and the place was permanently closed in 1987.
Today, having been abandoned for three decades, the place is claimed to be haunted. If you are interested in capturing or experiencing paranormal activities, your best deal would be in Pennhurst Asylum.
